i dream of making pretty things. i usually fail.

Threaded bracelets

If you’ve stepped into any store recently you’ve probably seen the threaded jewellery that’s everywhere this season.

Before succumbing to temptation and buying a stack of bracelets, I decided to take things into my own (frugal) hands.

I have a bunch of small bracelets in my jewellery, all not being worn because they were cheap and discoloured.

I then grabbed a bunch of threads from my mom’s sewing kit (thank god for my mom’s ambition in the 80′s, when she made a lot of mine and my brother’s neon clothes)

And then I got to work. It’s simple, just wrap the thread around the bracelet. Each time I used a new thread or began a new bracelet, I used a bit clear nail polish to stop fraying and to keep the thread from slipping around.

It took a bit of time, I worked on it for about an hour or two a day for a few days while watching TV or yelling at the Canucks, but they finally were all covered

So very simple. And cheap since I know most of us have old discoloured bracelets (or earrings) and thread around… what’s that, you don’t? Not a hoarder like me I guess. But they can be picked up second hand or cheaply at your local Claires or whatever costume jewelery store you fancy. And you get to use up thread! I have never, ever finished a spool of thread but at least I’m closer now.

Great Idea. For a shinier look Use metallic thread.
